Breaking the Curse of the Grouse

After taking a Moose, Dall Sheep,and huge Grizzly this year, I've lately found myself perplexed by a curse that has prevented me from killing a grouse this fall. Luckily, I must have drank the right potion, because I finally managed to break the hex this morning. As much fun as it is hunting the big stuff, I've found that arrowing grouse is equally fun, frustrating, and humbling! Who else out there has been humbled by the little critters this year?

on a side note i wish my problems were the same as yours....notihng worse than killing a moose, sheep and grizzly and then fighting for a bird...lol

Grouse are tough to come by here.  Might see one every 5 or 6 outings but usually they flush even out of gun range.

I would love to get a few with the bow, sure are great eating.

I love grouse,  have gotten a couple with my bow,  but it has been awhile.  That's when I lived in Wisc.

Congrats. Im always looking to shoot one. Best I did was in Maine on a Moose hunt, they were everywhere. The real king of birds.

I missed 3 before I got one at about 12 yards in a tree just before dark last Tues.
 I was shooting a 1970 53lb Bear Grizzly.
   They are not as easy as one would think, but tasted good in the frying pan!

I have had the crud scared out of me more than a few times by those helicopter birds while trying to quietly stalk. Nothing like  grouse over a fire.

I lived in Montana some time ago . I used to shoot a number of them with my recurve . Start a little fire ,pluck the breast out and stick a apple in it . Stick a green stick through it and roast it all over a open fire . Look around at the mt. and eat well . It is all good .

yeah...they're surprisingly challenging...I've been using blunts as I lost the only snaro I had..grazed 4 in the neck yesterday before I finally managed to kill one..I used to just shotgun them to eat & use the carcass for trapping bait, but the bow is much more addicting!

We don't have grouse around here! Congrats on your bird.

On a side note, I sure would like to know what kind of bow that is and see a few better pics of it. That riser looks awesome.

The area that I elk hunt used to have quite a few around but now they are scarce. Saw two last weekend and let them walk, hopefully to get the numbers back up. Miss shooting them, delicious!

Grouse would always see me first and scare the $#!% out of me when they flushed. Nice job on baggin one of them

Thanks! yeah..i know what you mean...I wonder how many guys they have given heart attacks throughout history! I've managed to get quite a few more...but let's just say the breeding stock is in no danger!
