Treestand practice
« on: September 22, 2013, 08:17:00 PM »

From this 15 ft. tree stand at 10 yds. I have a stand that could give me this shot so I wanted to practice it.

This is my first shot with Grizzly tipped woody. I'm praying this is the shot I make when it counts.

Should do it but 2" lower would be better based on the angle of the arrow.
Take a kid hunting!

Most of the time the deer will drop a little at the shot so aim lower but still on the deer in case they don't duck..."From experiance BTW  :knothead: "

I've been shooting 3-D all summer and trying for the elusive "11". I normally like to hit low in the heart area during hunting practice but I think I forgot about that lately.

Thanks guys!

does your point of aim drop when you shoot from the tree?  if so, how much for the distance you climb?

Yes it seems to drop. At 20 yds. from 15 ft. up it feels like I aim like it is 15 yds.

But at just 10 yds. it doesn't feel like I'm aiming that much lower.

Does that make sense?

High lung shot is one of my favorite Bona. Drops them quickly. When you connect let me know how you like that Grizzly head.

My archery club has about a 15' platform that I practice on as much as possible.  Big difference shooting from the ground and from an elevated platform.

Thanks Tom. I like how you think, "When".

Don't worry EVERYONE will know when I get one!

Tony, it really is different. Making some decent shots from my practice stand was a big confidence builder. I just don't want to get overly confident.

During that practice session I made two spine shots which I know are viable but I really don't want to do if at all possible. And besides the shot I shared I made two other lower shots that I felt were less effective appearing to only get one lung.

I actually tend to shoot better from an elevated position compared to when I shoot on the ground
