Toelke Whip. 62" long, 55 lbs @28" but I draw 32 so its more like 68 lbs at my draw.
Arrows? GT 7595 trads, with 100 gr. inserts and a 165 Simmons TreeShark mounted on a 100 gr. steel adapter, for 365 grains total up front.

Should mention that total arrow weight was ~740 gr. and it penetrated 15-18 inches before lodging in bone on the offside shoulder. Broadhead was still sharp enough to hunt with after removal from the animal.

Cow in NM.  Complete pass thru.  59# bow @28", and I draw 27".  Arrow Dynamics shaft, grizzly broadheads, about 550 grains total.  The shaft is tapered, so the weight is front end heavy without inserts.

2009  BW PLV 61# at 29".  ABS alaskan shaft with samuri head.  Total arrow around 650 grains.   Arrow lodged in offside shoulder blade.  60 yard retrieval.

2010 Same BW.  GT 55/75 with an ABS ashby head.  total 700 grains.  Pass through to the fletching.  150 yard retrieval

2011  Toelke Lynx with LB limbs.  61# at 29.  GT 55/75 with an Abowyer brown bear.  Total grains 680.  Pass through to fletching.  300 yard retrieval.  (no blood trail.... took 8 hours to retrieve a bull that died in two minutes.)  Shot was double lung but slightly high.

2012  Toelke Lynx again.  GT 55/75 with a Tuffhead.  630 grains total.  Barely passed through to hide on off side.  Heart shot that went 100 yards... died on a dead run.  Shot was 32 yards and I think it had lost considerable energy before impact.

This season I'm sticking with the same set up as last year.  I am currently elkless and probably will remain that way this season.  We'll see.

Before these elk I went several years without or was shooting them with wheels.

Jeff

2013 Spike Elk.  62" Schafer Silvertip Recurve 55lbs @ 29in, 30 in Beman 400 bowhunter shaft with 100 gr brass insert and 125gr HellRazor broadhead.  Approx 510gr total arrow weight.  Maybe a bit more because of a lighted nock.  Hit tight behind the right shoulder and exited behind the last rib on the left side.  Delayed passthrough in that the arrow fell out about 10  yds down the trail.  Elk went 50yds in total and was down.  Left a good blood trail despite most likely only hitting one lung.  Rick

I went on my first elk hunt this year and got a nice 6x6 at 25 yds...using a Sarrels 3 piece Longbow... shooting 50@28, I pull about 30.5"  so around 57#??  I used homemade Doug fir arrows from Surewood,  Grizzly broadheads(140).  Had great penetration, basically pass through, found the arrow on the trail....  went about 100 yds or so... I was impressed with the penetration with the DF arrows and the Grizzlies.  My arrow weight using the 80-85 spine was around 670 grains...  the heavy arrow I feel was the key..Good luck

My son and I killed Elk two years ago...............51 and 53# R/D bows, Abowyer Brown Bear b'heads. Fir arrows-650 gns total.  Shot mine in the heart, Adam got a double lung.
I just followed the sound with mine-never looked for a blood trail; my son had a 50 yd solid blood trail.
