Why we do what we do
« on: October 03, 2013, 04:50:00 AM »
Some do it for the racks, some for the bragging rights... Me, for the meat !!!!

Couple pieces on hog loin, a deer burger and a cold beer, just doesn't get any better.

I just finished breakfast..and that still looks like great food. Have not hunted hogs, but the deer and turkeys killed in the fall keep the grill smelling good all year. Enjoy the feast nature provides.
Last year weighed the meat[from one deer] in vacuumed freezer bags ready to put in freezer. If you eat 4 ounces of meat per serving[we all eat more-but that is what is recommended]  , that was 120 meals worth of meat. That was boned, all waste removed, ready for the cooking. Great value and all we have to do is hunt, and process it properly.  Roy
Maybe it is time to shoot what I have on the rack

I also appreciate the meat. If I get a big of rack in the process just an added benefit.  My wife tells me it would be a whole lot easier just to run down to the grocery store and she is correct.  The main reason I chase the game I do is for the plain love of hunting with the bow and arrow!

Sean B. , I have been hunting with a bow in the Va. and NC woods for years--have yet to get a shot at a lobster. What type of attractant scent or call do you use to bring in lobster. Maybe a big ol lobster decoy. LOL
Sorry could not resist. Roy

yeah, that's me too. I know trophy hunters, and I appreciate the dedication but shooting an animal for it's antlers seems like buying a car for it's ashtray.
If I go to the store and buy organic steak, I am looking at $20+ a kilo. If I shoot an animal, I can guarantee it is going to weigh more than a kilo besides it gets me out of the house into some of the most amazing countryside. That's worth the price of admission right there.
whether you believe you can or believe you can't you are right.

Sean, I would love to get a bunch of lobsters like that again. Even with the same out come.

For the rack hunters out there, I meant no disrespect at all.

I agree with Skotty.  Can't really say why, just that I'm driven to do this; it is part of me.  Dreamed of it as a kid, started bowhunting in my teens and still do it at 62.  I'm not that good at it, but it is who I am.    :archer:

the other day my wife and I were having a steak dinner and she said, "This meat tastes funny" and I had to point out that it tastes funny because it is beef.  Our freezer was empty and we had to buy beef... It's been 11 years since our freezer did not have deer/elk in it.   Oh by the way it once again has deer in it!
