cutting different fletching shapes with knife?
« on: October 09, 2013, 11:22:00 AM »
Does any body have any tips for cutting a feww different fletching shapes with a knife or scissors? I want to try some differnt shapes and some for kids arrows.  WOuld you make a template out of thin plywood or aluminium sheet and cut out with a razor?

I have taken 5" pre-cut feathers and trimmed them down to 4" feathers. Then to trim the front end down to a nice sweep I just use some masking tape.Put masking tape on the feather and then you can trim them with scissors. If you cover the feather with masking tape you can easily cut feathers with sharp scissors.I use blue painters masking tape, hold the feathers from moving when cutting and peels off easy without damage.

Make your templates from something like a plastic milk jug or a piece of vinyl siding.
