Thanks Kevin real life experiences is exactly what I was looking for. Have you tried all the lights?
It looks like one may need to buy more then one light and then try them out.
Here are a few I've found that might be ok, UCO Mightylite Flip and eGear Pico.

I haven't tried them all...I just decided to buy the best from the get-go!
Seriously, there are so many lights, it's ridiculous. We've settled on a good headlamp for each man and a tent light for general illumination. I also personally carry a Fenix PD32UE hand-held compact flashlight with me on most trips. My current favorite headlamp is a Princeton Tec Remix. I admit to being in love with my Mini Hozuki lantern!
