Carbon arrow selection help please
« on: October 16, 2013, 05:55:00 PM »
Hello, I am considering trying out some carbons, as I have been shooting wood for the last few years.  I am torn between the Arrow Dynamics ( the black ones), Arrow Dynamics Hammer Heads, or the Easton Piledrivers.  I hunt moose, deer and bears so I am looking for a good hunting shaft.
My setup is a Caribow Slynx 55# at my 29.5" draw and I am wanting to shoot the glue in glue on 100gr brass adapters with a 125 gr broad head.
What spine shaft should I start with?
Thanks, Murph

my slynx is 59@ 28.
my draw is 28
my arrows are 29 carbon length

i use 100gr brass, 120gr points.

GT5575s are what i use. i think a little more weight would be good.

you should get the 3555 working no worries. despite the charts, calculators etc. i have mates who shoot 3555s out of 70lb longbows with 200gr up front (29' arrow) the carbon recovers so quick. length is much more important than point weight.

if the 3555s are way too weak, a 5575 at 31" or 32" with 220 gr up front should also be close

5575 you have a long draw and a lot of weight up front. Should penetrate great.

earl jeff,

indeed it will penetrate great. I shot a couple of goats here in Australia. they were about 150-200lbs.

complete pass throughs. animal recovery - 5-10 yards.
Arrow recovery- poor blood trail and arrows disappeared into the bush never to be seen again!

Believe a Victory VForce HV350 would do well.

Length: ~30 3/8"
Insert: 100 gn
Point: 200 gn
Total: ~526 gns
FOC: ~27%

***Not far off from my arrow set-up for NZ

May consider a Victory VForce HV300

Length: ~30 3/8"
Insert: 50 gn
Point: 300 gn
Total: ~588 gns
FOC: ~28%

Note:The majority of my set-ups run greater than or equal to 15#'s under-spined per the calculator.
