Any recomended hunts?
« on: October 17, 2013, 09:32:00 PM »
I am planning a trip for the 2014 season. I want to hunt with an outfitter or drop camp. I want to hunt big game, be in driving distance from tn, so no farther west then Texas , and the hunt cost 2500 or less. Any body done anything that fits that description? I would love to kill a hog, or elk, bear , anything really. Just looking for some ideas from someone that's done one, so I know what to expect.

Sounds like some excitement in store for you!

If restricted east of Colorado (no further than TX)elk will be out of the question unless you are extremely lucky at drawing eastern elk tags.

If Colorado is in your zone of interest that would be the place to go with lots of over-the-counter tags available for bowhunters. You can find drop camps as low as $1,500. Colorao has an excellent "Elk Hunting Academy" on-line.

While I've bow-killed a Hog (in TX) I'm not a hog hunter but surely there are lots of opportunity at those for far less than your budget number.

I know of bear hunts in the extreme eastern part of Canada that are under $2,500. In fact, I'm planning on one with my son for next June myself. It would be my first recurve bear hunt.

I would suppose TN provides you plenty of action with white-tail so paying big dollars to do that might not be enticing. I'm the same. I won't pay $600 (NR license fees) to hunt in states like IA and IL even though I have been offered free access on very nice, deer management properties -- I won't trade my white-tail hunting for another.

Yeah we have great whitetail and turkey hunting Tennessee, no need to go anywhere else. Elk are out if the question and for bears you would only need to drive east to Tellico or Cherokee National Forest! There are some bear outfitters there as well as in the carolinas. Hogs would be fun too! Jim Dussias(Tarponnut)runs true south adventures in FL you should check him out.
There is a place for all God's creatures....right next to the potatoes and gravy.
