arrow holder on hill style or Not

so on my vixen when hanging in the tree the arrow likes to fall off the rest every time I slightly touch the bow,,, it will fall off the rest then hang on the string for a second and fall to sticks in the ground.  its happened a hundred times before with other bows I've hunted with but seriously whats the cure.

I'm hoping some kind of temporary arrow holder trick because I don't want to have a permanent arrow holder stuck to this longbow,,, or do you some of you guys just load the arrow when a deer comes into sight.

This was my fix on my off the knuckle bow. Rubber and and a match. It works pretty good. Just a hint. Have a few extras handy.

That's pretty ingenious Magnus! Does it just pop off when you draw? Interesting looking bow too...

Paul not my idea just one I picked up somewhere. May have been here. Yes it pops off as you draw. You have to play around with the right band as you don't want it too tight or too loose. The hard part is finding it after it pops off. Hence the extras. Lol !

Here is my setup from the off side of the riser.

Doing it this way, the rubber band that holds the arrow stays with the setup, and you don't have to search for it.

I know many of you will scream sacrilege but I think of my bows as tools.  I take good care of my tools but also will mod them so that they work as perfectly as possible every time.  The first thing I do with every bow I own is drill a tiny hole in the riser right at the arrow shelf and press or glue in a tiny pin with 1/8-1/4" sticking out.  I have a lifetime supply of hair tie rubber bands that I hook on the pin, wrap around the arrow and re-hook.  Holds the arrow perfectly and pops off as you draw.  Works perfectly every time.  Essentially a permanent, fail proof version of the above idea.

hey thanks for the tips,,  I do liek the matchstick trick and will try it,,, Centaur I can't figure that set up you have is it two elastics???

Bobby,,, I think I know what you mean but can you take a pic?   wondering about when carrying the bow does the pin play havoc with the first layer of skin on your hand?

First put the rubber band that will hold the arrow on the toothpick, then attach the toothpick to the shelf with a second rubber band. The first rubber band wraps around the arrow, and when you start the draw, the band will come off and the arrow is free. I use the setup in cold weather when holding the arrow with my finger gets too nippy.

thanks for clarifying that I couldn't see the elastic from the left side of the bow so that was confusing me..  makes sense because the tooth pick stays with the bow for that second and third arrow.

I use one of the arrow holders . I just use the 3M foam tape to stick it on. I haven't had any problems taking them back off or removing the adhesive. They haven't left any marks on my bows either.

OP:  Do a search on "arrow holders" and you will see that this topic has been asked many times before and that there are many options out there to consider.  Each option has it's own pros & cons regarding practicality, reliability and what potential they have for making a mark on your bow.

Unfortunately the one I have been using for years is no longer being produced.  But you can easily replicate it using a coat hanger, some heat shrink tubing and a few rubber bands for materials.

Here is one of my recurves - I couldn't find a pick of any longbows but it gives the idea and works the same on either.  Yes the pin is there and you can feel it when you carry the bow upside down but it is not something that will be jabbing into your hand.  You can go thicker if that is an issue but I just use a tine piece of welding rod or whatever I have available.  I think this one is a piece of light coat hanger.  It is real simple and just works.  I know many fear adding anything to their bow - but resale is not effected unless it were some rare collectable and makes any bow "better" imo.  I never sell bows anyway - just stock pile.
