Swing and a miss
« on: October 21, 2013, 06:07:00 PM »
This is my first year hunting trad.  So there I sat about 20ft up in my stand with my trusty Bear Kmag.  About 2 hours after getting into my stand a doe gave me the shot opportunity I have waited and dreamed about since I picked up a recurve this past winter.  I grabbed my kmag and took a deep breath slowly drew my bow and released my arrow.  I was just in awe with the feeling of shooting at a animal with a recurve as I watched my arrow in what seemed like slow motion fly and just pass right over her back.  So I guess you could say the score is deer 1 Ben 0.  But hey that's bow huntin.  Good luck to you all this season and God Bless.

We've all done it... LOL!!  PICK A SPOT!!!!!

The "eye" just seems to be drawn, to the horizontal line, of a deer's back. I've been at this over 30 years, and I still do it!!!!!

Keep after 'em Ben!!!!! You'll git'em!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

Glad you had the opportunity Ben.

If any of us tell you we get every deer we shoot at, we're probably not being real truthful.   ;)
Keep at it'll come together one day. Enjoy the experience, hunting pleasure isn't defined by how much meat you put on the pole. The total experience is what I enjoy. Being in the hills, watching wildlife, the beauty of Gods creation, the smaller animals & birds. It's a total experience & you just had a big helping of it. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks guys.  Don't worry I aint giving up after that.  I have hunted with compounds since I was 10.  After hunting with compounds for 18 years it was time for a change.  The thrill and the excitement of just the hunt really wasn't there anymore.  So after talking to a guy at work who hunts trad I got curious and now here I am.  Trad brought the meaning of hunting back, what a rush!

My first shot with trad gear was exactly the same as yours. The next day another doe came close and this one hit the mark. May it work out the same for you. God bless.
