Which size carbon shaft for ACS longbow?
« on: October 22, 2013, 01:29:00 PM »
I'm looking at buying a 45# or 54# 3 piece ACS CX, both are 62" and I'm not sure which spine would be best for each bow.
If I buy the 54# I'm looking at a Gold Tip 55/75 with around 225 gr up front, and GT 35/55 with around 175 gr up front for the 45#. Both shafts can't be shorter than 29", 30" is ideal.

I like the idea of shooting a lighter weight bow (45#) but I also like the performance the 54# will bring. Is the 45# (with about 9.5-10 gpp) enough to use large broad heads like Silver Flame XL? Any advise you care to share is much appreciated.

I shoot a 62" 47@28 3 piece ACS with the bamboo limbs.  I'm shooting an Axis 500, standard insert and 175 grain tip.  Not sure where you'd be with the heavier setup.

Why not just give the guys at A&H a call...I have found them helpful in the past...they know what works with their bows

I shot CE 250's out of my 55# 62" ACS CX cut at 30 1/4 .. I was shooting 145 grn heads. They shot great with several style broadheads. If you are hunting just deer the 45#'s should be fine. The ACS CX is a great bow.

Several threads recently on hunting with wide heads just do a search in Pow Wow.

I just picked up a 51@28 64" CX and it seems very forgiving of arrow spine.  I'm shooting an 8 strand ultracam string and a full length Beman MFX 500 with 50g brass insert, 3x5" parabolic and 125g point to superb effect.

I am not sure how you get by shooting weak shafts out of an A&H .  My bow is 64 inch. 45@28, I think I am pulling around 47-48lb at my 29 plus draw.  I am shooting easton traditional 340's cut to about 30 with 175gr heads.  I tried some trad lites tonight and they are too weak at my draw with 175 grain head.

Personal form affects spine/hits.  Plus the cut on the CX riser makes it less picky.  Stu Miller and charts are not the end all.  I've always had great results shooting 500s from bows in the 50# range.
