Grizzly Stiks
« on: November 03, 2013, 12:33:00 AM »
I just looked at alaska bowhunting supply and was shocked at how much grizzly stik shafts have gone up in the past few years.  Does anyone shoot these?  I had 1/2 dz back in 2009 and thought that they flew really well, but I didn't think they flew any better (BH or FP) than any carbon or aluminum arrow that I bare shaft tuned out to 15 yards.  Maybe I am missing something. Please, someone enlighten me.

I was given several grizzly sticks last year and took several animals with them including bear, hogs and some African plains game in Namibia. The price is really high but I will say that without a single doubt these arrows were the finest I have ever shot in nearly 40 years of doing this trad thing.
Unfortunately, my son and I hunt 12 months out of the year and we go through a ton of arrows. I would not afford that cost but wish I could.

They shoot better than anything else out there for me-- but YOW what a price increase.  I guess I'd better protect my little stash as long as possible... I thought $60 for 6 was high.....

Try Arrow Dynamics shafts.  Half the price or less and for me, they are a much better shaft.

I had a bunch that I accumulated over time at decent prices here on the classifieds (could never afford them at full retail).  Recently sold some of my stash to fund some other hunting projects, but I'm going to always keep a dozen around because they are great if you are trying to build a heavy high FOC arrow.

I have some that shoot well out my 78# longbow. The kicker is that, as I have gotten older, I'm no longer strong enough to handle that bow. I like them, but can't afford them. Besides, I just like wood.

I shoot them. They are very tough shafts.

I found some Sitkas at a local shop that the guy had for some time. Got them for $50 per half dozen. Not sure I could justify paying the full price though.

I'm currently shooting them out of my new to me green stripe Bear takedown. They fly great and hit hard.

I don't find that the AD shafts shoot as well for me I don't know why they seem a little stiffer in spine than the equivalent Grizzly Stiks. If anyone would like to trade GS Sitkas for AD lites, shaft for shaft, please let me know.

For many light weight bows, no other arrow I've found offers as much as the Sitka, for keeping a hunting arrow around 500grs.

While I have other arrows that will shoot out of individual bows, the Sitka's will shoot out of almost all my light bows.

I shoot alaskans and they shoot great but I would not classify them as a "tough" shaft. If you do not get a complete pass through they will be broken or if you hit something hard they will break!

Robhood23,

You are right, they will get broken from time to time. I have broken several that hit animals, but I'm okay with that.

When I say they are tough I base this on having shot them into trees, stumps, rocks, fences and once even flat steel. Of these arrows the number that broke is zero. Just today I hit a hard locust tree stump with one wearing a judo. The shaft bounced back about 15 feet. No damage, shot it at another target of opportunity. The inserts have popped out, points bent, glue separated, but they have never broken. I can't say that about any other shafts I have ever used.

But like I said before, they are expensive. YMMV.

I broke 5 of my 6 sitka shafts the first week on my deer targets plastic leg. Don't think I've ever busted an axis shaft that way. This was 5 years ago things may have changed.
