Sorry buckeyebowhunter...$24 for a deer permit and 4 months of bowhunting is a bargain.  And remember that the Ohio DOW is funded by license and permit fees and they are the reason you have a large and healthy deer herd in this state.

Ohio NR was $125 with an additional $25 for the second deer permit. I'm sure those have gone up.

I never have complained about the price of hunting.  Be thankful you live in a country where you can hunt.

Man, if it were not for us hunters and the money we spend on hunting, where would we be.  We are living the hay days of hunting because of the money spent on tags and licences.

I dont no what they cost here in WV. I have life time licens and they have paid for there self several years ago. I never have to buy them again and I am just 48. I do have to buy extra tages for extra deer which is 20 bucks. lol and a $10.oo bear stamp. I cant do anything else this cheap. I also cant do anything that I love as much. Sounds like you dont have it that bad.

I have no problems with a $24 fee. It's the best entertainment ticket in town and the money goes to a  good cause.

Here in WI the license/extra doe tag prices are ok. The only thing that is a little ridiculous is the bear tag drawing. You gotta pay every year and are supposed to get one at least every seven years, but I know some folks that have paid and waited for eleven years. That's a little ridiculous(imo)especially since there's a lot of bears up here, even to the point where they are becoming a nuisance.

Yup, I echo everyone else's sentiments. I think all of our hunting fees are pretty cheap for the amount of time and pleasure we get doing it. $68 here in NY and worth every penny! Shawn

I have no problem with the $24 price tag.  My PROBLEM is that the year before I turned 65 "they" changed the laws on me.  Was at 65 you got your licenses FREE.  It was change to you have to pay 1/2 price now.  What's with that.  Us ole poop's deserve a free licence!!!!!!

I don't mind paying for the license in WI but I do mind when that money is channeled into areas that do not support the outdoors or the enhancement of wildlife in general.

No sympathy here.  In NE, I generally buy 2 either-sex permits and 2 antlerless only tags (4x$28), plus an antelope tag ($28) plus habitat stamp ($15?), plus fishing license, plus a waterfowl stamp in case I get a crack at a duck or goose on the marsh and I want to be legal.  

As so many others have said, hunting is the best entertainment value in town.  $24 is the cost of pizza and beer (or soda)...ONCE.  $24 pays for two new-fangled broadheads.

Hey I just paid the state of Colorado $500 to hunt on FEDERAL ground. Something about that bothers me, but I still do it. Wished all that money went to wildlife management but it doesn't. Gets pork barreled into other crap. Welcome to the Land of the Free.

What I don't get is that I see all those trucks going west to pay the big bucks to hunt on ground that is owned by us, but we still have to dance with whatever state that is holding us hostage. The same things goes on here in Illinois: an out of state tag costs 325 to bowhunt whitetails. I don't mind paying to hunt ANYWHERE, and I'm fortunate enough to have the money to do it. But when I try to get some of my friends that are less fortunate than me to go out of state to hunt, the cost is an issue. Does anyone know of a breakdown of where the money goes? Bet you can't find one, and I bet that only a small part of it goes back to habitat management, game wardens, and into the wildlife budget. Last week I met a Ranger who said that the primitive campground I use as a basecamp might have to close. They don't have money in their budget to pay for maintainence. How could that be at $500 a tag??? That money is going somewhere, and it makes me want to puke to know that we are giving OUR money to projects and budgets that have NOTHING to do with hunting and fishing.

Hey guys I complaining about the people complaining about our deer population being too high but every year they move the price up. I'm not saying I'm too poor too afford this, and I'll pay it every year. But maybe they should stop complainin about the deer herds if they want to move the tag prices up.

Another thing that bothers me is that I have to buy tags to hunt on my grandfathers land, but I dont have to buy a license. What is the purpose of this. Youd think it would be the other way around.

Resident CA hunting license             $37.30
Resident First Deer Tag                 $24.95
Resident Second Deer Tag                $31.00
Resident Pig Tag                        $17.85
Upland Bird Stamp                        $7.60

We can kill only bucks in our general seasons. Does are in special draw hunts only. Pigs used to be 5 tags for $7.50 in a booklet...Now they are $17.85 EACH!
Turkeys are good though...you can hunt them with an upland bird stamp on your hunting license for 7.60 per year and take up to 4 birds per year between the two seasons. And hunt dove, quail and pheasant, rabbits and squirrels.
So for the grand total of $118.70, depending on how many pig tags I want throughout the year, times two for my wife for $237.40, I get our licenses, four deer tags (buck only, forked horn or better), two pig tags and a shot at eight turkeys between us.
And I pay it happily! Sure I groan about the pig tags...the only reason they went up in price is because DF&G figured out how popular they are to hunt! We have many, many, of them. The state just wants it's cut. Like I said, I pay it happily. If we are lucky and connect on all of our opportunities then the freezer stays full and we're eating the best protein $237.40 can buy. Not to mention the time spent in God's country with family and friends.
