Just wanted to share an amazing morning. I was in my tree stand this morning a half hour before light and by the time I could see fifty yards I could already see a deer. The deer was a large 3x3 and had no eye guards. He fed to within 15 yards of my stand presenting a good broad side shot. I am in a 4 point on one side or better area so I would have had to let him walk even if I would have wanted to take him. The buck continued past where I had walked into my stand and then lifted his head sticking his nose straight up in the air. I was sure he had caught my sent but a moment later I heard sticks breaking off in the distance and the buck was gone. I immediately looked towards the noise and saw three elk heading my way. I am hunting whitetail so I can’t get to excited but I and two other guys spent a great deal of time hunting and looking for elk in this area earlier in the season and none of us saw one or any fresh sign and now I had three headed straight for me. A calf and two cows. They continued on their path and stopped underneath me. I was excited none the less. I was in shooting distance of three elk and a buck all within a half hour of light. Off in the distance there are two more large animals coming my way but they have stopped. It is a cow moose and a calf. She is looking directly at the elk below me. She walks about forty yards and then begins to gallop in my direction with her calf in toe it is as if she is not happy with the elk and she continues on her path running the elk from underneath me. She stops for a moment underneath my stand and then continues on as if she is content on running the elk out of the county. All was quiet for about an hour then a branch breaks behind me in the thick tree line I am sitting in. I can’t see anything but it is already very close to me. Then I see antlers and body in a small opening just before he walks underneath me. In a moment he is 10 yards the other side of my stand. I am looking down on a buck with 4 points on one side and 3 on the other due to an eye guard being broken off at the base. I decide to pass on this one also. I ended my morning stand seeing 2 bucks, 6 does, 3 elk, and 2 moose, for a total of 13 big game animals. Not only that but 7 of those animals where within 15 yards of me. This is not the norm in the area I hunt. Seeing a couple of does would have been a good morning. I am thankful for the experience.
