This buck, at what I guessed was 3.5 years last fall, showed up about this time and hung around for a month or so and disappeared. It was never seen during the daylight by any of several folks hunting in the area.
I'm just guessing at his age last year. He might have been 4.5 years.
I thought he may have been killed last year, but no, he showed up this week and gets its photo taken about every other night. It is the same buck and boy what another year makes moving from 3.5 to 4.5 years makes. He looks a little bigger being close to the camera but he is still pretty impressive. Pretty nice for north Louisiana. I suspect if he keeps to the dark hours he might just die of old age.
I keep a camera most of the year on the same tree in a travel route at a pinch point. We had some beaver and tornado damage a few years back and it closed up the trail around the back of the lake. I spent some time this summer with chainsaw and weed eater opening a slick trail to the beaver damn crossing and the increased number of deer, bobcat, coyote, fox and coon coming by the camera is amazing.
