Anyone want a free shaving horse?
« on: September 11, 2007, 10:00:00 AM »
For you selfbow makers -- come get it and it's yours.  5' long, rock maple, antique, but very useable.  The "horsehead" or "dumbhead" is around here somewhere...

Hey there,

Knife River I would love to have that old sawhorse.  I have been looking round for a bit for one that I could make use of for woodworking projects and hopefully to work my way up to   building a bow.  If you would be willing to mail it to me I would send you the shiping costs before you sent it to me.

I live in Winston-Salem NC,
here is my adress so you can check on shipping costs.

5319 Delta Dr
Winston Salem, NC 27104

Let me know what I can do to help the process,

Woody,

That's a neat looking old horse.  Wish I was close enough to come and get it, and get a knapping lesson or 3 while I was down there.

I'm sure someone close to you will appreciate it.
Well, who'da thunk it!

Brian, I definitely want someone like you to have it, but I don't see how it could be mailed.  It's 5' long and easily weighs 80 pounds, probably a good bit more.  The best thing is for somebody to pick it up or meet at a shoot or knap-in sometime.

Shawnee, you're a good ways north (or I'm a good ways south).  GGG  Are you going to the Niblett's Bluff knap-in (SW Louisiana) in early Nov?  I could bring it to you there.

Woody, I probably won't make any knap-ins that far away, as much as I would like to.  I haven't really  had a chance to go to any of the big one's.  I've been to a couple of smaller ones here in OK, plus OJAM and MOJAM.

I'm really going to try and make a couple more next spring, if at all possible.  I sure would like to meet you at one sometime, and watch a true master at work.  Your stuff is absolutely amazing.

Not that you want to do it but I had a shavehorse of that size shipped to me once.  It looked like a coffin coming in.  The mailman was not happy   :)

I wish I was closer.  I lost mine in a move and miss it at times.
Take a kid hunting!

Woody, I'll be delighted to pick it up from you, at  Baltimore , this  past  Spring -  before  you haul it all the way off to Texas!!!   :goldtooth:

Oh, well - guess I'm still gonna have to break down and make my own   :p

Thanks for the interest everybody -- another guy in San Antonio p.m.'d me a few minutes after my last post on here.  Looks like it's found a good home.

I wish I had a hundred of them to give away with the time to personally deliver each one of them.    :wavey:    Bernie, I'd make you ride shotgun the whole way.  Wouldn't that be a good trip?!?    :notworthy:
