I am somewhat new to the AD shafts, but in my opinion they should be called Arrow Magic.  I cut them, fletch them, and shoot them.  That is how easy it is.  My bows below 56# shoot the Lite and the ones over 56# shoot the Trad.  I tried a field tip test kit with my 64# Whippenstick, and was able to hit a 3" bullseye from 15 yards with the entire kit,  which is 100 to 315 grains.  It was truly amazing.  I have never seen an arrow so forgiving.  They are also tough as heck.

Gary Hunsicker has advised me to go with the Trad Lites since I will be putting a 300 grain head on there. Said it spines about 72 pounds or so?

Jacob shot me a PM and I can send you a trad light and trad to you for testing fee of charge, just let me know arrow length so I can cut it for you first and install the inserts. I can also include a 300 gr field tip. IMO the trad lites my be weak with your set up. I shoot a 53lbs@29 longbow also with the regular insert/trad lites and 250 field point and it is border line weak.

Thank you very much, that would save me a lot of heartache if I were to buy the wrong shafts then have to worry about trying to sell them and not lose to much $ with shipping and everything else.

Jacob,

I have a bunch of experience with these shafts, all I shoot. For my 52-55# bows I shoot AD Hammerhead lites, but the AD Trads shoot just fine also. Above 55# I shoot AD Trads. I like the AD Hammerhead lites (11.5gpi) because they are very close in weight to the AD Trads (11gpi). That being said, I can also shoot AD Nitor Stinger green/orange and gold out of all my bows. Every shaft I own has a 100 gr brass insert and I shoot 250 to 300 gr heads.

Mr Rowan-does AD make their own heavy inserts, or can I use one from GoldTip/Easton?

I been shooting them just about a year. You can bare shaft them but I think paper is best.  You can also just shoot them.  I like to get them tuned to the sweet spot for point weight and then I can go up or down a little with point weight from there if I want.

I started with Trad lites wood grain.  They shot great in a lot of stuff, but I did have to change point weight some for some bows.  I got some hammer head lites and didn't have the best luck with them.  I think they shot a lot stiffer. Too heavy for me with all the weight I put on them to get them to shoot well. I traded them for Trad lite black shafts.

Now I have noticed that the wood and black are not the same stiffness. I have to shoot the black with about 100 gr or so less point weight. Both are flexible on point weight but there is a range difference.  I don't know if this is typical or one of my shaft sets is off.

Right now i am shooting them out of my MOABs. I draw to 29 so my weights are higher than listed for my bows but not as high as you will be.

51@28 cut to center with calf hair plate Trad lite wood 31" 100 gr insert 175 point.

53@28 cut out from center a little 30.5" Black 100 insert 175 point.

The center cut is a big factor.  The wood on the 53 is stiff in paper and the black weak in the 51#.

To get ideal flight in paper I have to go at least 250 point on the wood on the 53# and drop down to about 100 point in the 51 with black shaft. This is with 100 gr inserts in both.

I think I could shot the wood Trad lite on the 53 with standard insert and 300 gr point drawn to 30" for about 58# draw weight and get a very close to ideal tune.

I don't know of my wood lites are typical or not but they handle a lot of point weight.

Inserts for ADS are larger than standard inserts so you have to get the AD inserts.

I shoot the wood grain lites in anything 50-60 pounds. They are very forgiving, and very tough. At a long distance shoot (100 yards) with a stiff crosswind, they brought many comments as to how straight they were flying, compared to all the parallel carbons people were shooting. I just cut them to my length and screwed on a 100gr. field point (no tuning) 51@28 Palmer

Jacob,

Todd has it correct, AD inserts have to be used. Several sponsers carry them, 3 Rivers, Raptor Archery and others. Also, I use Easton G nocks with the Uni bushing made for AD shafts instead of the AD nocks.

Extreme 312, I'm think the stiffness varies from batch to batch. I don't know if wood grain has anything to do with it.
Sometime in the last 2-3 years the stiffness of the AD TRAD Black jumped up to about 105-110 on my spine tester. I had to add 75-100 grains of point weight. I fought that because my old ones worked so well and that is a significant amount of weight. But I got used to it and like them. Parallel have been too sensitive for me.
I'm ready top order a new batch. Thinking of getting 2 doz. The first thing I'll do is spine test them.
Anyone put em on a spine tester lately?
