Don Dow.
« on: December 03, 2013, 06:01:00 AM »
Just sent for Dons last lefty 55lbs @ 28" 60". I already own a 50 @ 28, 58". Very excited for it to arrive. What length string do i need. I know some of you guys owned 60" Stiks, so i thought i might find out here. The FF string i put on my other don dow was given to me, and although the bow shoots great, i just want to make sure i order the right length string. I plan on ordering an SBD string because i love the k mag with one. Not sure what the bow looks like, black glass gray riser, but i know i will love how it shoots. Couldn't resist buying this one because i have been looking at a heavier draw weight. Finally can handle the 55 lb limbs on my sage with ease, and look forward to a little more KE, not that the 50 pound dow wasn't enough, just if i can shoot more now i'm going to. I might get old or something. Plus seems to be a legitimate excuse to use on my girlfriend for buying another bow  :)
Thanks guys, Matt

I would just add 2 inches to the actual string length on your 58".  Should get you close.

Have a 60" Dow longbow, my bow takes a 57and 1/2" SBD string. By the way the Dow stick is an awesome shooting and performing bow. Denny Sturgis Sr

Thanks yes great bows for sure. Very quiet and smooth. unfortunately don has fallen ill, and is retiring. When i called him, he told me a man named Rich Emery is going to make them now. Don says he has worked side by side with Rich for 9 years now and he is fully capable of making the same great bows. Don is a truly great guy, i enjoyed talking with him. I plan on ordering one from Rich, but the one in stock fit the bill perfect. If anyone has any interest in his longbows, they can still be ordered. Thanks again, Matt

I just ordered a new string for my dow stik and I ordered a 51" string for my 54" bow and it fit perfectly.  So order a string that's 3" shorter than your bow is marked and that'll work.

I love my short don dow long bow, it's my only trad bow at the moment and his service is great.  I plan to order a recurve when I get the funds together.  They are light, fairly quick, quiet, and no handshock.  For the $ (about 1/2 of most custom bows) they are hard to beat.
