Tuning with field points

Can someone answer me a real quick question? If my fletched and field pointed arrows are flying right, does that mean they're too weak, or too stiff. I'm right handed. I'm trying to tune a set of arrows to match the arrows I'm shooting now & can't remember whether I need to cut them down, or weight them up!

strip the ftetching off and try it.Then see if it is still weak.

Weak.  What hill boy suggested, but I would go back no further than 10 yards maybe less depending on the size of you target.  Properly tuned bareshafts should be slightly weak as the fletching will stiffen them up a bit.

If your release is ok you should be able to shoot properly tuned bareshafts from 20 yards no problem.

Are you shooting fletched arrow with broadheads and fletched arrows with field points or fletched arrows with field points and bareshafts with field points? It might be just me but I am a little confused with the statement you made.My experience is also limited only to bareshaft tuning with fletched and unfletched arrows like in OL's website.

No bareshafts at all. These are purely target arrows & won't be fitted with broadheads.
My setup is just fletched arrows with field points fitted. They're flying around 10" to the right at 25yds, but grouping fine. What do I need to do to get them to fly to the centre?

Not really sure Rob, but you can try lessening the cant of your bow when you shoot to move the greouping to the left.Have you tuned your bow to these arrows.I would adjust my sight if this was my olympic style recurve.

Don't really want to alter the bow as I've got 3 dozen arrows flying perfectly. My trouble is that I'm trying to make up some really light weight pine shafts. The bow is 71# at my 29" draw length. I've been shooting 75# 11/32" Pines arrows cut to 31" with 125gn field points.
What I want to do is build up a set of 5/16 using 30-50gn points. I bought a dozen 48# 5/16" shafts & I'm just trying to dial them in. The idea being that the lighter the arrow, the flatter & faster it'll fly giving me more margin for error in my range estimation.
They're for shooting at 3D courses which typically (over here) give an average distance of 40yds & can stretch out to 100yds!

This is all purely experimental, I'm perfectly happy with my big ol' 11/32"ers, I'm just tryingto gain as much advantage as possible (we ain't allowed to shoot carbons in my class  :( )

48# spine shafts out of a 71# bow??  I don't think it's going to happen Rob.

Why not try 75#-80#er's and full length taper them from 11/32 to 5/16.  Burnish them and just put a light surface sealer on.  They should come in light for you and spine ok too.

Well, I thought it might be a long shot, but I had to try!  :D  I regularly shoot with a guy who shoots 32# arrows from a 53# bow with 30gn points, I thought I may be able to just scale it up a little.

A full length taper's going to be my next step, I'm just not too sure how to do it!

Bare shaft your arrows first this will give you a starting point.When fine tuning change one item at a time.shorter arrows,more wieght up front,if you want longer arrow's etc.But you need to bareshaft first.15yd is where I start.good luck
