Leather grip on a Toelke Whip? Pics Please!
« on: December 18, 2013, 10:38:00 PM »
I want to put a leather grip in my Whip but I'm intimidated by the thumb rest.

Has anybody put a leather grip on a Whip? If so, how did you deal with the thumb rest?

I put a beaver tail over one last year.  Took a pretty big tail to cover it but wasn't anything really special about the process.  Go for it, you'll be fine!

Here's a pic of me putting one on my Toelke super static recurve that has a large thumb rest. Just experimenting, don't have it on anymore.  What I did was take the leather and wet it so it would mold then wrap it tight against the riser with cord spiraling around to conform it to the handle. When it dried enough, unwound the cord, punched holes in it and laced it up.
