Snuffer Quality

I have been shooting trad gear for 2 years now. I have really only shot 2 types of broadheads(muzzy and zwickie). I had a guy on here(Barney) gave me some magnus snuffers. I was wondering if all snuffers are in the poor quality mine are. The heads have never been shot, never mounted, nothing.

When I mounted the broadheads I noticed that not all were line up the same on the insert. I noticed that some of the backs of them(I don't know the proper term) would not be a perfect circle. None of them had perfect spin test results either.

Any incite or similar problems? Am I doing something wrong?

Snuffers are pretty much all I shoot for white tails and I've never really had a bad head.  Sometimes takes an initial work over with an aggressive file to set the angle of the edge but that's it.  I use the long aluminum adapters and they fit/spin fine.

Is there glue residue in the ferrules?  You may be using too much glue and not getting the head to fit snugly into the adaptors.  A little unevenness on the edge/lip of the ferrule, though it may be cosmetically unappealing, has no effect.

I have no experience with the Magnus Snuffer but I have a dozen of the originals and they are everything others have described where sharpening is concerned. I've had no problems with alignment when adding adapters or to wood shafts.

If you mounted them on the inserts yourself, yes you are doing something wrong, most likely using too much glue or not enough heat.  If you are talking about heads that already hand inserts installed that is a quality issue that was common in some of the older Snuffers with inserts factory installed.

You should be able to heat those and realign them without too much trouble.

Yep.  Snuffers are good.  Easy to sharpen, fly true and leave big holes.  Double check your setup.

I've never had a problem with Snuffers either.

What is the weight without the inserts of your snuffers?

Benjy, I am not sure. A guy just donated them to me. I don't personally own any inserts other than the ones he sent. I haw never used any broadhead that wasn't "screw it".

I will take the adapters out. Clean the adapter and the inside of the broadhead and try again.

Also, when spin testing, are you trying to get ABSOLUTELY no wobble at all? Or is a slight wobble fine?

You want no wobble bud.  Keep turning your head with some heat on the adapter/head until it spins true.  Good luck!

dont rule out a slightly bent adaptor its more common than you would think, be sure and use the full length adaptors as well....
