Tolke Whip or Schafer
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

I would recommend shooting a bow first before you buy it. Lot of bowyers have return policies.
Some of them will let you send it back if you dont like it
You want the option of returning the bow if it doesn't fit you, or at least deal with a bowyer that will get the grip how you want it even if it means sending it back to be re-done.

I've been stuck with many bows that just wasn't right for me.

Might want to look into a Herb Meland Pronghorn.

I'm liking the look of the Caribow featherhorn

You said D shaped r/d. The Dwyer original is just that and has a fantastic locator grip.

Well, I have a 21st Century, but they are not "D shape" longbows when strung.  You can't go wrong with a Northern Mist Superior.  Also Dave Wallace makes the Wallace Mountain longbow which is a mild RD longbow that is of the classic D shape when strung and he can certainly put a locator grip on if you wish. Neither of these bows will be anywhere near the $1000 mark either and will shoot as good as any.

Kalamazoo is coming up in 3 short weeks.  Can your Friend make it to the Expo in Kalamazoo Michigan? Not all bowyers there but some good ones and he can try them out and place an order if one calls his name.
