Do you think this is too much?
« on: September 13, 2007, 12:25:00 PM »
I was cooking up some arrows for this hunting season. I like front loaded carbons and I decided to try a full 500 grains up front on PSE Carbon Force Dominator 300 arrows. They seem to fly great (as far as I can tell)and hit like the proverbial ton of bricks. I can't shoot farther than 25 yards in my backyard That is my shot limit in the field as well. I don't know if these arrows will suddenly nose dive at some faurther distance.
Do any of you other guys that front load carbons think I have gone too far?

What's your total arrow weight?
I'd say that if they fly right & hit what you're looking at, don't worry about it. They'll be fine!

I don't know I lost my grain scale. and I don't know the grain per inch weight of the shafts.  But this is out of a mid 60s draw weight high performance longbow.

I really wouldn't worry about it. If you're happy with the way they perform, why change?. If your limiting your shots to 25yds & they fly perfectly to that distance, why worry about what'll happen over that distance?

on one of my set-ups i used 350grs up front out of a 60lb recurve, and it shot very well , but they did nose dive pretty sharpish after 25m but if 25yards is your max and they fly good out to that then like Rob says "No worries"
There is more to the Hunt.. then the Horns

Don't worry about it. Being able to hit your mark is what counts. A miss with any arrow weight or FOC is still a miss. Shoot what works for YOU.

Well for all my faults I'm a decent shot. Well that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

They shouldn't nosedive any more than other arrows of equal weight just because of the up front weight. Gravity doesn't pull differently just because the weight is up front.

If they fly well and you hit your target, then you got nothing to worry about.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

Yep C2 is a decent shot. If you hit the mark with 500 up front I guessing Its gonna stay hit.

Like they've all said, Curtis.  Stick with them.  What they might do at a distance that you don't shoot is irrelevant.  As long as they go where you want them to (consistently), they're right for you.  Good luck in the upcoming season.
