Just wondering if Bear marked many bows in 1 lb. increments like this? Don't recall many.
Did they use the xx#/#xx system as did others?
Seemed they used mostly 5# and real wt. under the strike plate.
Have a Great New Year!
Thanks,Mike

Maybe not on the lower poundage bows, don't know for sure but I have an old Cub (61 maybe?) that is marked 32#, nothing under the strike plate either.

Some bow companies such as Pearson marked their bows in 1# increments but I have never seen a Bear marked with more than one X before or after the weight. I once had a Kodiak Magnum marked 40X# on the riser that was marked 47# under the strike plate.

Jack, as I recall your 1959 Owl Bow is marked 32 pounds...I cannot believe a guy with only a couple hundred bows would not remember that

Dave,
Bear did mark their risers with the correct weight during the fifties and sixties. Sometime in the late sixties or early seventies they started using an X behind or before the marked weight to indicate bows that were less or more than than that weight written on the riser. The true weight would be marked on the shelf under the strike plate.

Now I understand Jack...as you probably know my newest Bears are from 1963 although I did have a 64 Kodiak for a while...one of these days I should try one of those newfangled ones
