Epoxy 4 screw in inserts
« on: January 02, 2014, 11:22:00 AM »
Anyone use Epoxy to glue in screw in inserts for BH's like Snuffers.  I have had several come out in my 3D target lately using hot melt.

I used gorilla glue epoxy on some grizzly broadheads. Worked pretty good, shoot them alot into targets practicing for hunting and have never had an insert come out.

I have used Devcon and it works very well. Get it at local hardware store. I like the one that sets in 24 hrs..

Alot of it has to do with the shaft. Some (unnamed brand) shafts I've had have had problems with hot melt glue pulling out even after scratching and cleaning the inside. Then some of it has to do with the type of hot melt. I have found the Quick Stick hot melt to be the best and have had no pull-outs with it. The Ferr-L-tite seems to have the most issues.

Here is link to Quick Stick glue, scratch inside of shafts with rolled up sand paper, clean well with acetone and then give this glue a go.

I am taking about glueing in screw in inserts into a glue on Broahead.  I was concerned that if I do not ge them lined up right the first time and had a wobble in the BH I would be SOL.

I like 5 minute J-B Weld......never gave me any issues.

Thanks guys.  I just bought some JB weld for some footings. Now I need to clean out the the hot melt.  You all use anything special to clean out the BH channels?  I saw this one site that sold these tapered wire brushes that looked pretty good.
