Blayne Courtenay has a good club, Courtenay Fish and Game with a great archery section. PM me and I'll give you the names of some people that shoot traditional. I'm in Campbell Crik just up the road.

Thanks all. All the feedback motivates me. Will be taking my bow out for archery season this year. Haven't got the poundage figured out exactly yet, using the bathroom scale it came out around 45lb. I will probably add a arrow rest, some handle material and a finish of some kind. The whole process has been very enjoyable, not all that overwhelming, and rewarding. I can see how it becomes so consuming!

There are girls in our town getting bows because of this Hunger Games thing. I have been asked to give lessons, but so far they all have gotten Mathews compounds. I have a compound free zone around my target, so I cannot do it here.

Welcome to you and your daughter from Oklahoma!

My 10 yr. old daughter has been joining me (and usually beating me) at 3-D shoots for about 3 years now and regularly brings friends. I'm sure the Hunger Games books/movies hasn't hurt the friends' interest, but my young 'un was interested in them because there was archery in 'em.

Either way, it's an irreplaceable set of lifelong memories we're building with our kids, by taking them afield with us.

Good on ya, for accommodating  her interest and being a good role model.
