Black Widow 58" PCH owners....
« on: January 07, 2014, 01:07:00 PM »
I'm a couple weeks into waiting for my 58" PCH. I thought I'd go ahead and order a performance skinny string for it, so I'll have an extra string.  I know most string makers can build a string to exact length to optimize performance....so at what string length does your 58" PCH perform best at? Also include brace height please. Thanks.

I bought a used 58" PCH a few months ago and have a flemish D97 on it with a 8.5" brace.  String lenth is 54", and a flemish string allows for easy brace adjustment.

I know there are some high performance endless strings out there, but I prefer the flemish.  Widows tend to like a high brace (even to 9").  Good luck with it.

I don't get to crazy about my strings. I just use Widows D97, and I brace mine about 8 5/8ths.

I'm with Sean, and I do not think the so-called high performance string can make a huge difference in speed (maybe 2-3 fps).  If accuracy and noise suffers, only more reason to stay with BW strings.

There has to be a good reason Widow has been supplying those D97 for many, many years.

I agree with the others.  Have them send an extra spare D97 string with your new PCH and you will be all set.

Yup, the string that comes with your new PCH will be just fine.

Significantly quieted mine down by utilizing an SBD 8 strand.

On my PSA's which is the same limb design as your PCH I did not pick up any more speed. The advantage is the bow is quieter with the SBD  strings.

I have shot my friends 58" PCH many times and it was quiet and shot very well with B-50.....yea I know, why would you use B-50......because it works!!

Tim at Braveheart Archery, he's a Sponsor, carries 8 strand SBD strings in stock. A 58" AMO recurve string fits it perfectly and really tones down that Widow thump. Order from Tim and you'll have it in a couple of days.

I have never been able to get more speed with a skinny string on any of my widows.     Widow

Allen Shafer with Lefties R Us Makes great strings. I don't know if they improve performance or not but they make Widows very quiet. His Double Dog silencers are great also, they look way better than I can make them look.

i agree with the above. i use fast flight, 12 strand, BW strings and even B-50, can't tell much difference. The B-50 is dead quiet though.

I have owned a widow or two, and I prefer them with an aftermarket string.  I notice an immediate quieting down of the bow.  Performance not so much, but they are def quieter.  The strings that come with the bows are nice strings as well.  Either way you decide to go you will be happy.  Just a forwarning if you decide to go skinny on the string be prepared to shoot an extra stiff arrow as widows already have the widow factor.

I have a 58 inch pchx. It has an 8 strand sbd string. I shoot a 340 spine tradonly arrow cut to 29.5. I have 100 grain brass inserts and shoot 175 grain broadhead. The bow is braced at 8 1/4 and is very quiet! I also have a 58 inch KBX that shoots the same arrow at the same brace height with the same string! Both draw about 50lbs at 28. The string that came with the widows also works well. I have noticed a little more performance with the SBD.Hope this helps
