I have taken a bunch of stuff with selfbows and even more with sinew backed osage bows.

Sinew backing counts as a selfbow to Me.

Mike, what was the bow and arrow setup did you use to take that caribou?

P.S. your hickory bow kit came today. Thanks a bunch!

The caribou was taken with a osage takedown and a pine shaft, took two caribou on that trip with that bow. Same set up on that bear picture in Canada.

I dream of taking something with a bow I make myself one day.  I have a farm full of tall, straight osage.  All I need is the time and some know-how.

Mike, I met a young man Thurday that you helped build a selfbow. Logan was a pleasure to meet. He was at the Arkansas Knifemakers Association meeting.  In fact Lin Rhea, a Master Bladesmith, text me to see if I had Logan's contact info to let Logan know help is available for him in knifemaking.

Chris,
Logan is a great kid. Here is a picture of the deer that he took back in the fall with the sinew backed osage bow that he made with me in a class back in the summer last year.

I have to second Ghost Dog, I own selfbows that do not lag behind by composite bows. And there really isn't a better feeling than when you make one yourself and see how well they shoot. They do take a little more experimentation to find the right arrow but that is part of the experience.

Ghost Dog- that was the point of this thread, to show others what a selfbow is capable of.....

It seems like a lot of the selfbow hunter that used to post on TradGang either got banned or no longer post. That stinks because I remember seeing some of those critters and being in awe. The combination of woodsmanship and craftsmanship was truly inspiring!
