As others have noted, I am afraid my hunting season is over. We still have 10 days to hunt, but we have to dress like pumpkins, gun season the rest of the month. But that's not the problem, it's Mother Nature. The 6 to 8" of snow is fine, should be fun, but the sub-zero wind chills are keeping me indoors. In my younger days, when I was full of vim (substitute another word for vim if you want) and vigor, I hunted when it was in the single digits. Anymore, when it becomes an endurance test-how long can stay out here before I just can't stand it anymore??-I just find a chair in front of the woodstove to hunt from.
I have no complaints with my 2013/14 season. I passed on several fawns, shot a doe, missed a 10 yard shot on a doe, passed on a couple of 2 1/2 y.o. bucks (from the same tree and on the same trail where I missed the doe), saw a bunch of bucks out of range, heard bucks in the thickets working over trees, even had a glimpse of a decent buck-don't think he was a "beast"-but if he'd come close enough, I'd have had to take a shot. All in all, a very enjoyable season.
Now I need to pull my stands, fine tune some stand sites, explore for new stand sites, do some shed hunting, and, of course, start scouting for turkey.
Hope everyone else had a good enough season that they can look back on it and smile.
