Anyone else shoot the new predator Recurve at kalamazoo

I shot 3 different models of the Predator recurve at kalamazoo and really like the new version with the flared riser. It is shaped like their machined riser recurve called the velocity I think with the riser resessed 3/4 of an inch so you gain that in draw length. I usually shoot 62 bows but found this model at 60" to be butter smooth and smoken fast just like the classic model but I cant remember the model, guess I will have to get ahold of huntersniche and found out, I see one of these in my future.

Apparently there s a model with a wave in the riser - I have seen a few photo's from a guy from Australia - looks nice. The website thing seems to be the last thing they update. Saw it about 6 months ago maybe.

It's  called the Impact riser. I can barely find any info on it either but I hear they are available. You just have to call Hunters Niche and speak with them directly.

I keep hoping they come out with a "B" riser. Maybe give you 3 more inches of length. Give 63" bow with 60" limbs and 65" with the 62" limbs.............

Check out their website, you'll see the velocity riser.  The velocity is metal. (I'm just not into metal at this point)  I purchased the "Impact", riser which is made of futurewood. The "Impact" riser I have has the wave. I didn't see it on their website.

According to Ron, the Impact riser has a different angle than their standard riser, this loads the limbs and adds a couple of pounds to the draw weight.  

I have a classic riser with #50 limbs and an extra set of #39 limbs.  I bought the Impact riser for the #39 limbs. They are a great combination.

The grips are the same on the two risers, and with the right arrow, the bows shoot very much alike.

Yea that's what I was looking for was the name "Impact" I have checked the website and there is no info about this riser but talking with Ron Pittsley at kzoo he said any limb built since 1996 would fit this riser, cool option for guys who already have limbs. I shot the metal velocity riser and it is awesome, absolute dead in hand at shot ,quiet, and everyone knows about the speed of the predators. And yes the velocity is a metal riser bow not really my thing but a awesome shooting bow nonetheless. Maybe Muth could post a pic of his impact riser for everyone to see, the one I shot at kzoo was a green color and looked awesome.

I am always resistant to change, and really hoped I wouldn`t like the "Impact" version of the Predator...BUT, I did.

With the poor weather and low attendance Saturday morning, I was able to put arrows thru a lot of bows because there was no waiting at the target lines.

I was able to determine that VERY FEW bows are as "DEAD" in the hand as a Predator when the string is dropped.

I have been a Predator shooter for well over a decade...resistant to change indeed.

I was at Kalamazoo and wanted to shoot the bow you are referring to but was busy helping a friend run his booth.

I did talk to them for a few minutes about my classic that they are reducing the weight on.

I like the fact that the newer bows limbs can be used or interchanged from right or left hand bows.

Bonebuster Sunday there was hardly anyone attending. One practice area there was nobody using it as I walked by. I should of taken the time and regret not shooting several different type bows.

Hi - I am that 'guy from Australia', that somebody spoke of on this thread.   I bought this bow last year from the Archery Shop in Adelaide, South Australia.   That was over a year ago, and there is still not a lot of information about this bow on the net.

I had the standard hunter a few yrs ago, but I can say the new 'Impact' bow is even faster, smoother and just as quiet.   What I found, which was the best of all, is that this bow really pointed and shot exactly where I looked, unlike any of the bows I had bought previously.   I loved it so much I sold all my custom bows and was happy to just shoot this one for the rest of my bowhunting days.

However, this bow has a very sad story attached to it.  My wife and I were in Cambodia over the Christmas break and received an urgent email from the Australian police.   We had been broken into and the whole house was trashed and anything not tied down was stolen.  My wife stayed in Vietnam longer with her parents, and I had to cut our trip short to come back and sort out the mess.  It is heart breaking to walk in and see the acquisitions of a lifetime, piled up in broken heaps around the place.   Needless to say they stole all of my arrow making gear, arrows, cameras, electronic gear, and of course, my Impact.

Insurance covered a lot of the big stuff, but so many things that we had had for years (no receipts), were not covered.  The money from the big stuff had to be used to buy all of the non covered stuff.  Consequently, I have no bow now and am really missing being able to shoot.

The sad thing is they did not take a bow stringer with it and would probably have no idea how to string it (they probably would have strung it the wrong way) - it is probably laying in a wrecked heap somewhere.

I rang Archery Supplies today to price a new one. He has a brand new one there at my poundage (46), but they have gone up to 950 AUD now.  We really don't have that spare cash, so all I can do at the moment is look at the photos of this beautiful bow, and dream of the day I can get another one.

Anyway - we are still safe and I still have my beautiful wife and family (the important stuff) - but man - I really hate robbers now!!

You are that guy Phillip! - I have paid $800 for a Predator here so that price isn't "out of line". The Predators I have owned each had different tiller on them, no two the same, but I'm sure if you can muster up another you will get used to it. What a bummer - it was a good looking bow - they each have a "born on date" on them to identify them

I recently got a 60" Predator Hunter from 3 Rivers. I was so impressed with the bow, I called Hunter's Niche and raved about it to Mike for so long, I think I embarrassed the poor man!

After a serious, stupid, non-archery related, shoulder injury, I had a way-too-long layoff. (Maybe it's my imagination, but at 62 years of age, stuff doesn't seem to heal-up as fast as it did at 22.) I had to begin again, at 29#, at my 26+" draw, and started slowly working my way back up, using some inexpensive Samick risers and limbs. From 28#, to 34#, to 38#, to 43#, to 46#--a weight I felt would be adequate for deer, javalina, varmints, and small game.

When I thought I could handle about 45# very well, I got the Predator. Because Predator limbs are all marked at their actual, (not nominal), weight at 28", it was simply a question of Josh, at 3 Rivers, being kind enough to sort through his Predator limbs until he found a pair marked 48# at 28". With them, I was able to nail 45#, at my draw--as per my plan.

With tapered, cedar arrows, spined at 50-55#, cut to just under 28" bop, with a 125 grain Zwikey Eskimo, or field point, my arrows are coming in at about 460 grains, and are flying very well. I am currently enjoying a brace height of 7 and 3/8". With some yarn puffs, it is fairly quiet, but I think I am going to throw some "brush buttons" on the D-97 bowstring, and see what happens.

The Predator Hunter pulls smoother than my 46# Black Widow PTF, (which is pretty darn smooth), and is at least as fast, although I haven't chronographed either of them. The Predator Hunter, made of that resin-impregnated, maple, "future wood", is fairly heavy and, I believe, helps promote that "dead in the hand" reputation that Predators seem to have. (I have, and love, 3 Hill longbows, but any perceived recoil, if not "hand shock", is very tough on my shoulder, now, and I have had to put them up.)

I have small hands, but I found no fault, at all, with the grip. I use a right wing fletch, but have never felt a feather brushing my hand as I shoot off the very low shelf. For me, it has been a smooth, fast, and very "hittable" bow, that has given me the confidence to get back out into the hunting field.

I have a Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet, a Big Horn, and a Hatfield TD hanging in the rack, too heavy for me to pull, at this time. They are, obviously, very fine recurves, as is my Black Widow PTF. That said, if the "physical therapy genie" gave me the ability to return to 55-60# at my draw length, I just might simply get a set of heavier limbs, and stick with this Predator Hunter, I am THAT impressed with it.
