Back from New Zealand...pics
« on: September 16, 2007, 11:09:00 AM »
Hi everyone,
I'm back from my trip to NZ.
Didn't get a lot of hunting done but had a fantastic time anyway!
Sorry I could't come up to see you Jeff! I'll be back next year
John, how did your GoBush trip go?

August was very rainy and farmwork was plenty but we managed to sneak away for a little goat hunt in some beautiful north island backcountry.

Accomodation was basic but the surroundings made up for it.

We had to leave on the second day because rain made the rivers swell a lot.
But I managed to put an arrow into this young billy right bevor we left!
He just stuck around a little too long! Easy drag to the truck too   :goldtooth:

Those young goats make excelent crock pot curry!!

Back on the farm, afternoon stumping and hunting produced this hare.
They are pretty cunning around this time of year and  great fun to hunt.
Shot this one with my younger brother watching which made it even more special!

Those guys kept us entertained while working!

Jeff, what do you mean crap? Those look like Rio's to me...do they not taste good or something? I was going to ask him why he didn't shoot one for the pot...awfully good eating they are!

Thanks guys!Had a great time indeed!
Don't know much about NZ turkeys exept they taste nice and are not as smart as their american relatives.
I guess they get smarter when hunting pressure goes up.

Gidday phil,I wondered what happened to you mate.
Hey I'm impressed with the Hare, good on ya'.
My Trip to Go Bush was "as always" Really good.
I didn't get a deer this time,My arrows decided to fly high when shooting at deer, but for some totaly unknown reason didn't do this when shooting at goats.
Very odd huh!!!!!
I've heard our Turkeys being called "Meriams" or a name that sounded like that.
They do wise up very fast when they get regular hunting pressure ,"but yeah most of em' are pretty slow.
The pic's look very much like a place I know in the King Country Phil,,but I guess a lot of places do look like that.
Take care mate.

Gorgeous place.  Looks there should be some nice trout in those pools...  And maybe some hobbits in the meadows.    ;)
