wood -carbon -aluminum arrow noise
« on: September 16, 2007, 04:19:00 PM »
Was shooting my arrows out of my bow have wood aluminum and carbon, they are all close in weight with the carbon being 44 grains heavier(inserts in them)but were weighed with a cheap hand scale.
The wood is very quiet but can't get them fletched because i loaned my fleatcher out and have not got it back yet so was going to shoot the carbons but seem noisey(sp?) off the shelf and the aluminum is worse! Any suggetion on what could be making the carbons so noisey?
I want to shoot the woodies but may not be able to for a while. The aluminums are out, to stiff.
Thanks for any opinions!
Ron

I find that hard to believe as my experience is with all arrows weighing the same the woodies and carbons are close on noise produced with a slight edge to the woodie, but aluminums by far are the noisiest. Shawn

I would say they are too stiff, hitting the shelf, or the nocks are too tight on the serving. If they are "snapping" off the string, they will be noisy.

Wood has always been easily the most quiet for me, aluminum being the loudest(what Shawn said). Part of the problem with carbons and aluminum is the whstling from loose points; I see folks 'tightening' the points before each shot-how annoying that must be-why not use a tiny bit of thread locker?
