Quiet Canteen Mod.

For what it's worth....My 1qt plastic army canteen likes to "bloop" and "glurg" when its half full or less.
I bought some plastic mesh cooking pan scrubbers (looks like a donut), unrolled them most of the way, looks like a tube sock now, put 4 in my canteen...... and no more kooky noises.
They only decrease the capacity by 2-3 ounces.
Got the idea from a Vietnam Vet friend who said they used to fill up the fuel tanks of small airplanes with those scrubbers to keep the tank from blowing up if it got shot.

Thanks for the tip, I may have to get a canteen and give that a try. I used to have one of those old plastic army ones. The thin plastic poland spring type water bottles make too much much noise, mostly from the plastic crinkling in my pack.

An oldtimer friend once told me that his noisey canteen forced him to move real slow and it helped with his hunting. Never tryed it, myself.

I bought a rubber canteen from Brigade Quartermasters years ago. Perfect...holds a qt of water, even half full no noise. Not sure they are being sold anymore.

I don't eat or drink while hunting, so I got nothing.

Make Sure That They Do Not Leach Chemicals Into Your Water, Especially If Yo Put Additives Into The Water. Also, The Mesh Sounds Like A Great Place For Extra Bacterial Growth. Make Sure You Clean It Well And Store It Dry.

make sure you don't use bleach to sanitize your metal canteen or metal inside a plastic canteen.

If you can get an Army 2QT canteen, they are softer/pliable and you can "squeeze" the air out of them when you put the cap on - no "sloshing" or "gurgling"!

Good points guys, thanks. I didn't say it was a "good" idea, lol, just an idea. I drain it and leave it upside down, plastic canteen, plastic mesh. I only use plain water, nothing else.
