Stingray skin
« on: February 13, 2014, 08:49:00 PM »
I see that Tandy has some stingray skins and I was wondering what they would be good for . They feel to rough for a bow wrap but I could be wrong . The light colored pattern on the black has to go on something but I cant figure out what . Could look neat as an overlay on my hip quiver .

Any ideas from the Trad Gang ?

Used some on a knife sheath. Looks good, but you will learn to curse with feeling if you try to punch the sewing holes with an awl   :)

I make armguards out of them. They are tough as nails!

I have bought several stingray hides and I can tell you that there are much better deals available than what Tandy will give you; even on that auction site that can't be named.

We have put them on bow quivers but they are rough on cutting dies. dhaverstick, how do they work on the armguards? It would seem like they would be very abrasive to a bow string if it's hitting the armguard.

Don, I made one for myself that I used all last season and I didn't notice any damage to my string. They will dull scissors when you cut them and can be a pain to run an awl through but that is the only problem I've had with the hides. The same can be said for caiman hides, though.
