Treestand/climbing stick questions
« on: February 16, 2014, 08:56:00 AM »
I saw a thread awhile ago on the Millenium treestands and am very interested in them since I'll be doing more pack in hang and hunt and pack out this year.  My question is on the seat...when you stand and put the seat up does it stay put ok, or does it want to fall back down?  It was hard to tell from the pictures on their site, wasn't sure about the straps.  My other question is on climbing sticks, my first choise is lone wolf, but was looking at the summit buck steps, i like the looks of how they stack together and how light weight they are, but am interested in any feed back any one has.  Thanks

Jason

I bought a set of LW. Then 4 more. The best out there. They fit together tight and hanging them is as easy as it gets.

You can tighten the seat bolt so that the seat won't fall on the Millenium. Just don't tighten too much
I have a couple sets of the Lone Wolf sticks and also Rapid rails. I will choose the rapid rails any day over the lone wolf sticks. They are about the same weight, but I much prefer the footing the rapid rails give. I've had my foot slide off the step on the lone wolf with muddy boots and that is a bit uncomfortable. Plus the fact the rapid rails are a fair bit cheaper

I bought a millenium hang on,  it is the most comfortable stand it ever sat, but with my height, I cannot get up easily without using an arm.  I like to slowly stand when the deer come into sight. In the late season, if you use thick pants or a Heater body suit, forget it because your a$$ is stuck in the seat.
As for the rapid rales , when they are new, they worked well. I notice more and more climbing in they make way to much noise. When my buddy used that stand, I could tell every step he made from a distance. I wanted to try the millenium stick next year.

I have two millenniums this past year. Yes as dnovo says tighten the seat bolt and the seats stay up. Very solid, secure, comfortable stands. A little big for my liking but that's just a personal opinion.

I use ladder sticks. Dead quiet! Tree has to be fairly straight though but you can get three of them for what you will pay for one set of the separated climbing sticks.

Lone wolf are awesome.  I never stack them together as it is takes a little maneuvering and is metal on metal.  I place them on a horizontal foam block, each with its own groove.  The blocks then fit on the vertical uprights of the stand.  Totally quiet and lower profile.

I checked out the Millennium stands.  Have you considered the Lone Wolf Alpha Assault?  Light, quiet, solid, fits together with the sticks.

I have a Lone Wolf Alpha and either 2 or 3 Alpha Assaults.  They are on my very short list of the truly great hunting products I've used.

The only style climbing sticks I've ever used are LW's and I have no problems with them but I also don't use them very often. Most of my treestand sets are already in place and I just use the LW set up when I'm hunting new turf.

I have both lone wolf and Summit Buck Steps.  If I am going to leave the steps up for the season I lie the Summit.  For walk in hunts the Lone Wolf all the way.  Summit s a way to noisy to set up and do make a little noise in the cold.

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm pretty sure i'll end up with a Millenium stand, i plan on thinning out my current herd of stands and sticks.  I'll keep a couple of each, but I'll be hunting state land pretty much exclusively this coming year so I want someting quick easy and quiet, I like the millenium bracket since i can have 3 or 4 spots set up and not alot of $$$ wrapped up into it.  I'm leaning towards the LW sticks too just wanted more feed back since there's alot of good products out there.

Just my opinion but you can't get better than a lone wolf assault with lone wolf sticks that have been  converted with rope for cinching.  No buckles for noise. They are 4 hour sits though.  Millenniums will make noise especially in cold weather.  Hard to get out a millinium too,  BUT most comfortable stand on the market.

Millinium stick out like a sore thumb too, way to big.

Millenium stand is extremely comfortable, it has an elastic loop that slips over a knob to hold the seat up if you desire. Very easy to do one handed  when standing up and without looking. I have both the buck steps and LW sticks. Both are great.  I like climbing with the buck steps better as they feel more stable to me, but four LW's will get me higher than four buck steps and pack better with the stand, so LW's usually get the nod.

I have the LW sticks and the LW Alpha stand and they make a great package.  I stack the sticks and the stand has an index built into it for the sticks to interface...I use one short rubber bungee across the sticks and they are rock solid, absolutely no noise while packing.  They are also quiet to set up!  This is the best system I have used short of being able to leave your stands up all the time.
