Which arrow?
« on: March 11, 2014, 11:54:00 PM »
I'm trying to tune  my bow/arrow but still get weak showing with 125 tip.  I'm shooting a Palmer  (shelf built out some) 60", 45@28 and I draw 28".  I'm shooting Beman Centershot 500 29" long (don't want to go shorter) with 75 grain brass insert.

I think a carbon 400 will be too stiff.

If i tried a 2016 aluminum cut to 29" will it also shoot weak since its about same spine as 500 or should I try a 2018 at 30" with heavier tip?

Any suggestions appreciated.  Thanks
Moon

What type of string are you using and how far out is the shelf built?

How's your nock fit? Tight? or reasonably loose?

Try padding the strike plate out a bit. Those 500's should tune just fine out of a 45# bow.

You might try pulling the brass insert and using some different tip weights.

You know everything screams 500s but with 200 grains up front and with that arrows length a 400 might be good to.Most likely your a in between size like a 440 which you can get in the Bloodlines its a H series arrow same as the Cetershots just light in GPI. But there are others AC Pro Hunters Ions and Hexx are all H series's arrows. And they will come in a lot more sizes like what you my need a 440.

I think with 200 grians and 29+ inches hour really breacking down that spine. 500ight be to weak 400s to stiff but not by much I bet 440s will be spot on.

I have a 60 inch Palmer that is 50# @ 29 and I draw it to just under 30 so I am probably getting 51-52# out of it.  I have not messed with the shelf or strike plate.  I shoot Axis Traditional 500s cut to 30 1/8 with a 75 grain insert and a 175 grain broadhead.  Nice shooting setup.

You may want to look at your nock height..too low can give a false weak reading. BeauJ
