Here's the MDNR forest management strategic plan for 2014-2018. This applies to State of Michigan land. There's a clickable map for regions. If you hunt a certain area, you might want to see where they may be doing some cutting or more importantly, where they aren't. Keep in mind, deer like edge, diverse habitat and thinned forests. Deer hunting in a monoculture of mature, unbroken forest can lead to lots of red squirrel sightings and very few daylight deer sightings.
