Hoyt Tiburon
« on: April 02, 2014, 12:10:00 AM »
I just got back from vacation and my new Hoyt was delivered while I was away. Since its so late I can't give you guys all of the goods yet but I can give you my first impressions. First this is a 64" model and is 55#. It is the blackout color. Looking over the limbs the finish is an even semi gloss with some texture. The only finish flaw is some slag was left in the sight holes and plunger hole but it all brushed off. The bow comes with some nice swag. It comes with a really nice case, a pre cut strike plate and shelf velcro material, string leeches, and a nifty keychain. It also has a nice manual to help explain the basics of archery and the tiller bolts adjustment. The only complaint I have is the string. It is a bit too short and the lowest brace height I could get is 7 7/8".  I'll have to make up an endless string for it. This bow is made for the bowhunter but it is tapped for every accessory available on any Hoyt tournament rig if that pleases you. The riser is also very slim and sleek. So much in fact that you would have to trim a Bear Weatherrest or J-8 rest to fit with out overhang.  It may be best to use something like a Cavalier Superflyte for an elevated rest. Also to use a quiver you would probably want the Hoyt 2 piece or a Tightspot to make use of a plunger if shooting off of a rest. My wife is hogging the computer posting our vacation pics so I will have to post bow pics tomorrow. I will shoot it as well and give you guys my thoughts.

Alright I got to to a bit of shooting today. This bow shoots very well and is pretty stable. There is a little bit of a buzz at the shot but I am shooting without any silencer at all, the only thing on the bow right now is the strike plate and shelf. The bow is slower than my ACS but I did not chrono it today. I also forgot to put it on the scale to see if the weight was accurate and what kind of stack it produces. As stated the string is too short. I have decided to go ahead and make a new string and elevated rest. Once the brace height is dropped I do expect a speed gain. After that I will tweak the arrow weight and if necessary add some silencing materials.

Wow!
That's nice. I did not realize the tiburon has the same limb pocket system as th buffalo. Kind like a buffalo with a tech riser.
If you don't mind what did that run you price wise?

I paid $730 so it is on the spendier end of factory bows. But there is really no comparable alternative either so...

Is that riser ILF or only use formula limbs?

It uses formula limbs. I will be honest, I like the formula attachment better because it is much more sleek than the ilf pockets. It has less weight adjustment than ilf but since the adjustment is really intended for tiller I don't feel it gives up anything. As far as after market support goes I feel Hoyt offers up enough conventional limbs makes to satisfy most archers and if you want beyond high performance limbs Border makes them for the same price as their ilf limbs.

Thank you for the review.  I would like to shoot this bow side by side with a Bear B riser and #3 limbs
