sliding cat wiskers
« on: April 05, 2014, 10:11:00 AM »
What kind of knot does everyone use to hold their cat whiskers on the string?
I am trying to wrap the whiskers around the string, and am having bad luck keeping them from sliding down the string.

Google "constrictor knot" the double version is what I usually use. If you leave the tag ends long enough to tie on some "handles", you can pull it really tight and I promise ya they won't move.

If you cut the whiskers around 8" long, fold them over and tie a real tight granny knot, then cut them to your desired length...they will never move.

Ryan's method of putting on catwhiskers is the best I've seen. A real nice plus is no waste. Got them on both of my bows no issues and they work great.

Settled on Ryan's method.  Not only do the whiskers stay in place, but I finally got that nice round ball I was lacking.
Thanks for all the help.

Here is a red neck version for guys with callused hands. LOL  These won't slide around on you unless you move them..... btw... i use two layers about 2" long and trim to suit.

Ryan has it nicely covered.

The last few years I've simply been using a small zip tie.  Very fast and easy and if you cinch it enough it won't go anywhere, but you can still move it for fine tuning if you want to.

Jim Jones at Firefly got me started on this, didn't like it at first but over time I have come to prefer it.

I wrap the bundle around the string and pinch it in place while I wrap waxed dental floss tightly around it several times. I tie a few knots, then wrap several more times and tie off with knots. Snip the ends of the floss off at about 3/16". I rub string wax on the knot and around the floss. Then lightly melt it with a lighter.

I have never had one move in 25 years of doing it this way.

Zip ties work great.  Easy to slide the Cat Whiskers up and down.
