Interested in your thoughts re: arrow weigh etc.

I will be hunting moose in Newfoundland this fall and wanted to get your thoughts on arrow weight and broadhead selection. I will be hunting with a BigJim Buffalo 62" 50# @ 28". I like the CX 150 cut to 29.25" I'm thinking 600 gr. total weight. I have traditionally hunted with 3 blade Magnus heads but am considering a 2 blade head for this hunt for better penetration. What are your thoughts?

Iv' never hunted moose with a trad bow, but your prospective set up sounds sufficient to me. A 600 grn arrow with a good two blade head should get the job done as long as you poke it where you should! Personally I would go with a single bevel BH like the Grizzly or No Mercy. I would also go with the heaviest draw weight bow you can shoot accurately.I would think 50 lbs would be about the bare minimum for moose. Sufficient however with a well placed shot.

Just guessing you will have to add significant weight to get to 600 grains with a 150.  I have shot that arrow with a brass insert and I think I added a 100 grain insert for use with a 51# Shrew.  ( not on moose tho). I am just referring to the weight, not advising on what you should use.  I don't remember how much the finished arrow weighed, but I am thinking it was around 550.

To get to the 600 grain range, you'll need to add a 100 grain brass insert, probably a 75-125 grain adaptor and a head in the 125-150 grain range.  Of course, can play with the head and adaptor weights. May need to go to a 250 with that kind of weight up front.  
A high FOC 600 grain arrow with a two-blade head will be good medicine for moose.

I'd recommend more bow weight if you can handle it.  Of course, you can kill a moose with a 50# bow, as I'm sure others will point out.  But they're big critters, with thick,tough hair, hide and ribs, and the more punch you can muster, the better.  Good luck.  Moose are fun, and big!

I would use the 250's w/ brass inserts.  Bareshaft tune them and I bet you will come close to 600gr.

Put a sharp two blade broadhead on the front and your equipment will up to the task.

The last moose I shot I used 620gr doug fir arrows with Magnus Journeyman head out of a 58# @ 28 longbow. The arrow zipped right through at 18 yards.

If I draw my WY moose tag for this fall, I will take any of my 50-55# bows w/ 500-600gr arrows and be perfectly content.
