The Karch's visit True south Adventures
« on: April 19, 2014, 12:58:00 PM »
Jim and I had the pleasure of meeting Dale and his younger son, Matt, when they came to visit and check out our hunt sites April 9-11.

Both these gentlemen are very easy to get to know and we had fun. Dale and I talked business strategies, which is one of my favorite subjects, and we chatted about his years living in Wisconsin, prior to 3 Rivers Archery.

Originally Dale was going to hunt turkey while Matt pursued hogs. We asked him not to turkey hunt this year because one of our better leases is currently under re-constuction by a new rancher. He is clearing all the brush and pepper  and fruit trees from the ranch, of course leaving the hardwoods hammock intact. Then new grasses will be planted for good cattle nourishment. There was a lot of loud heavy equipment being used.

Many of the smaller fruit groves in our area are being converted to cattle ranching these days and with the price of cattle at an all time high, a lot of monied folks are diversifying into this business.

Watch for the price of beef to increase substantially in the supermarket. Lease prices are increasing right along with this trend.

This temporary disruption will have a very positive effect on the ability to hunt both species, but while this was taking place, we could not take Dale's money. His deposit is going to be used next year.

Matt and I went bow fishing during the day and hunted hogs late in the afternoons. This is canal type bow fishing for tillapia and gar. Walking and sneaking...no boat required.

Matt caught on to this form of hunting quite quickly and managed to sneak on, and arrow at least three tillapia and several gar. I still cannot seem to shoot low enough or sneak skillfully enough to arrow a tillapia this year. The tillapia make a delicious meal and Matt would have stayed longer if he could have...

Matt passed on some hogs that he felt were too small, killed a raccoon or two and went home hogless, but smiling, nonetheless.

I enjoyed my time with these guys.
