Tuning question

Hey guys, I have a question about tuning.  Once I determine the point weight of my arrows...will it make a difference how I achieve that weight?  Example:  Say I determine that 225 grains is the optimal tip weight for my arrows with my bow.  Will it matter if I use a 225 gr. point or broadhead or can I use a 100 gr. insert and a 125 gr. point with the same results?  Thanks, Sam

I'm sure if you had equipment accurate enough to measure the difference, it would. The weight is distributed just a bit farther back.

In the real world, I can load a 175 gr field tip on my 3555s, or a 50 gr insert weight behind the insert and a 125 gr field tip, or a 135 gr Zwickey 2-blade Delta on a 40 gr long adapter and the standard insert and all fly the same for me.

I'll be the voice of desent.  It matters.  The 100 grain inserts I've used are much longer than the regular inserts.  That additional length can act as a footing, shortening the flexible portion of the shaft and stiffening the arrow.  Some may find that it doesn't matter, but it makes a huge difference for me.

I find this fact very annoying, because I don't particularly enjoy tuning and this kind of finicky tuning stuff means more time tuning and less time shooting.  That's why I'm a newly minted Arrow Dynamics shooter.  I don't know what kind of pixie dust they put into those shafts, but they are far, far less finicky to point weight.  I can do a full 75 grain swing in bh weight with no arrow flight issues.
