Finger hook on the string?
«

I have read a lot of posts that reccomend a deep hook on the string and am trying to decipher what that really means. I realize that it is an entirely personal thing. So anitomically speaking, where are you guys placing the string when you say take a deep hook?

Between the first and second joint of the string fingers.

Same as Pat, deep hook for less tension in fingers.
Just as important is consistent placement.

I don't go as deep on the hook as some guys but it has to do with my shooting glove. I place the string right at the end of the nylon overlays on my american leathers glove. Which puts me right in the crease of the first joint.....I think? It seems comfortable and tension free there so I don't pay a lot of attention to it. However, if the finger overlays were longer, I'd probably try a deeper hook just to see what I thought.

Just behind the first joint about 1/8". In the crease is painful, too far back and I can't get a clean release.

in the cress of the index finger and just behind the first joint of the traffic finger. I only use those two.

I shoot with the string in the 2nd joint of the middle and ring finger. The index finger just touches the string at the 1st joint. Never shot like that before, but just switched to a tab about a month ago and it just feels right.

I thought I used a deep hook, but it's not as deep as some of you. For me, it's in the crease of the first joint on all three fingers. For many years, I shot off the pads of my fingers. When I went to a deeper hook, I also bent my fingers more at the first joint, so the outside of my fingers/fingernails rest on the side of my face, whereas before, it was the pads on the inside of my fingers that touched my face. Hope that makes some sense.

I went to a deep hook about a year or so back and I swear my fingers are stretching.
