Hours old fawn follows me while squirrel hunting
« on: June 12, 2014, 10:06:00 PM »
I went across the street to the sewer easement to hunt this morning. I kicked up 2 does and look what came out to follow me.

Pure innocence right there....
I was always told not to touch them, Because the mother would abandon them with the humane scent on them, Is that an Old wives tale....?

I had always heard the same thing. That's still a neat video. My brother was on his way home and piked one up that was laying on the side of the interstate. I guess he's going to make a bottle baby out of it.

Here's a quote from a fawn rescue organization:

"A doe WILL accept it even though it has been touched by humans, but she cannot retrieve her fawn if you linger in the area."

Very cool.  I live up in the mtns and have yet to see a fawn.  Very unusual for this time of year.  Usually will have seen a half dozen or so in our field where the does keep em safe.

As I was walking back out I saw the doe's tracks and the fawn's tracks side by side. I guess she picked him up. Probably have him the lecture on not talking to stranges. LOL.

I can't believe that squirrel season is in in VA now?? I'm sure that squirrels are giving birth as well as deer. Nice pic by the way. I saw a hen with 9 poults this week. Is the time of the year for mother nature to replinish the woods. DB
