Some of you remember the song, "What a difference a day makes", sung by just about everybody who was recording?
In this case, it's "What a difference a string makes".
I picked up a Big Foot Yeti from the classifieds recently. Nice little bow. There was some discussion about the length a while back.
It shot ok. Not great, but ok. It had what seemed like a very thick (16-strand?) endless loop string on it, a couple of huge silencers and was braced at 8 1/8". It was certainly silent.
I spoke with Kirk Lavender about the recommended brace height for these little ones and he said 6 1/2" to 7 1/2" max. The string that was on it was twisted a bit, so I untwisted it. At that point, the silencers flew out, but it still wasn't too loud. Lowest brace height I could get with the endless loop string untwisted all the way was 8". Obviously too high for a dainty little d/r longbow like this. I made a temporary string from an old FF string and measured the length that would give me 6 3/4" brace height, then ordered an SBD 8-strand D-10 string for it. Just like the song, What a difference a day (or in this case, a couple of weeks) made.I strung it up and it hit 6 3/4" on the button. I shot a couple of arrows with no silencers or nock points and then let it sit overnight to stretch out if it was going to.
Today, I measured the brace height and it had dropped only 1/8". I added a couple of wool puffs, tied some nock points on and went out to shoot. Braced at 6 5/8", the bow is just as quiet as with the heavy string and big silencers, but that was the only thing that stayed the same. This little girl is a tiger! Only 41# @ 28" and AMO 54", but it shoots the same arrows as my full sized 44# and 46# bows and shoots them very well.
Pics you say?
