bars shaft tuning
« on: June 24, 2014, 12:30:00 PM »
I have shot bare shafts numerous times and had indications of weak shafts. However all my arrows with fletching fly like darts,,, hit the target where I aim and the shafts go in perfectly straight. So my question is does bare shafting tuning really accomplish anything??

I believe in bareshafting been doing it for around 20 years.I think it helps you find the correct dynamic spine for the bow you are shooting.I like to have my bareshafts slightly weak. And even though feathers add alittle weight like around 13-14 grs to the nock end.Adding weight to the nock end will help to stiffed the spine alittle.I guess for me it's like a second nature.First thing I do when ever I get a new bow to me I try some of my bareshafts of different lengths and spines to see what the bow likes.Thats after I twist up a new string for it,I twist up new string for any bow I aquire also.

It accomplishes a lot.Fletching hides tuning flaws.Broadheads, especially wide ones, can magnify them. The purpose of tuning, for the bowhunter is to get broadheads to fly exactly where the field point arrows do.You can also tune just with broadhead arrows but just shooting fletched field point arrows won't tell you if you are there or not.A perfectly flying broadhead arrow is also a big factor in penetration.

It is a nice tool so long as you have good form.  If form is lacking, you will get all kinds of crazy reads.  Shooting broadheads compared to field points   will tell you a lot as well.

I think the best thing bare shaft shooting dose, is help w/ shooting form. So I do it frequently for that reason alone and I shoot Snuffers on my bare shafts. Talk about needing a tune arrow to bow and good shooting form.

I bare shaft. A bare shaft will not lie. Its tells the truth about tuning and my form.
