Treasure from a past hunt
« on: September 23, 2007, 04:21:00 PM »
while cleaning up my shop the other day i came across the arrow that i used to kill my first trad deer with. this arrow serves as the first for several things. it was the first dozen arrows that i ever made(POC's) and i took my first traditional animal with it.

the arrow was broken by the deer as he ran away after the shot into 3 pieces which i recovered. the shot was a double lung hit and the small buck only went about 75 yards before taking his last breath.

this deer was the animal that started me down the path to traditional archery in a big way. he meant as much to me as the first deer that i ever took with a bow 22 years earlier.

after rewinding that hunt back through my dusty brain i decided i needed to do something special with it instead of just having it propped up in the corner with my other successful arrows. so i made this necklace with it. the head was napped by a good friend.

my 1st Traditional Deer

necklace made with part of the arrow that i killed this deer with.

it will be around my neck when i'm in the field with stickbow in hand from here on out.

Rob, that is just too cool, and that is a beautiful head as well.

Something to hang onto huh, and good MOJO!

Why didn't I think of that? I just have this ol' broken arrow sitting on a shelf over my computer.

I'll think about it. Nice job, PF.

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

Very cool necklass Rob, and a neat momento of a special occassion. Be careful you don't accidental dig the thing into your chest though, those rocks heads can be sharp   ;)

Killie i am sure you will think of something really cool to do with your arrow.

Mickey i have worn it a few times and it seems to sit pretty well without digging, but i will be careful. probably wear it on the outside of my base layer or t-shirt.

Wendell i am with you on the MoJo. let's see how this hunting season goes.

Nice idea,
