Hey Dads
« on: January 22, 2007, 10:13:00 AM »
I had got to attend hunters safty with my son yesterday.  In Utah you can take a class on line and then attend an eight hour course.  My wife and I thought that since my son is exposed to hunting and goes in the field with me it would be good for him to take.  In Utah the law just changed to allow people under 12 to hunt but as he is six and can hardly read, this is more of a practice.

Three weeks of online courses latter the little guy and I head off.  By noon the instuctor pulls me aside and asked if I was OK with him passing that he had a real shot.  They found a CO to administer the test orally to him and he got 47 out of 50 right and then passed the shooting test.

He passed hunters safty!  The look of pride on his face was priceless.  I was trying to play it cool but having a hard time.

It's amazing when you give a child something he likes, they will always excel..

Now you have something to use to keep the school grades up. You know there is nothing he cannot comprehend...

That is great. You have a lot to be proud of. Looks like you had a good student and he had a good teacher.   I had to take the Hunters Safety Course last year for my Colorado elk hunt and thoroughly enjoyed it. I even had to drive over an hour each night to take it.  I would suggest to anyone that hasn't taken it to do so. Even this old dog learned a bunch. I think that hunters safety and gun safety courses should be tought in every school along with swimming lessons.     Pat

Thank you for the kind words.

Tonight my wife is out with friends.  My son, daughter, and I are having a party. It will no doubt deteriate into something involving face paint and animal calls.

I have been reading him posts and last night he was running around the house with his shirt off yelling whoooooooooooooooooooaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh bunnies!!!!!!!

Thanks I wonder where he got that?

Tell him congrats and congrats to you for doing the right thing and getting a youngster the proper education before hunting.  :clapper:

MW my son passed the test when he was 10 with a 98%, and the instructor held up his exam and said it was the best he'd seen.  I know how proud you are.  And for the little hunter, he deserves a big congrat as he obviously takes this VERY seriously.  I think both of you deserve a night out at the archery range!  You have stated this hunter out right.
