Getting my wife started...
« on: July 09, 2014, 10:54:00 AM »
I posted looking for a lightweight bow to get my wife started in archery after receiving the news that she had to have a hysterectomy and that we could not have another child after losing our only one last year.  I offered up my own horn composite bow, and if you've ever shopped for one you know they're worth a lot.  It would have been worth it.

Instead, atatarpm procured my wife a Ragim Matrix recurve and I picked her up twelve pink Easton IONs with pink and white fletching, and we went out to the old barn to practice.  I took a bunch of pictures, and she of course deleted all but one citing unflattering angles.  I told her the bow looked fine, but she wouldn't have anything of it.

We're working on her form, as she's just starting and I shoot thumb to her three under, but she really enjoys the sound of arrow smacking target, and she hears it a lot more often than one would think.

I need to get her a feather rest (purple, of course) and we're playing with tip weight to get her spine where it should be, as I've never had to worry about spine much thumb style.  But she loves it thus far, and we're enjoying shooting together.

The thing is, atatarpm didn't want payment, but since he doesn't want money everyone should just pray for good things to come his way.  I can't not do something for him, but prayer is never wasted and God hears and will take care of him.

Without further ado, here's my wife with her first new arrow and her new bow...

If she keeps up her progress, she's gonna outshoot me.  That's fine with me.  She's self conscious about pictures, but I tell her she's beautiful.  I don't even need the bow in her hands to say it.  Any of you men know how to tell her and make it stick?

Yes they seem to get pretty darn good at shooting, only advantage I have is I shoot more. Pretty soon she will be jumping up and down after hitting a 3D target - pretty fun to see.

Sem,  I have prayed for your troubles.

Looks like you and your wife are having fun! It sounds like she is Doing Great!

I know you can tell her not to worry about pictures but that doesn't work., I think she'd be a  lot Prettier if she wasn't hiding behind her hand   ;)

Keep yup the Fun, I'll keep up the prayers and I'll include atatrpm in mine for keeping hope, faith and spirit alive.

We have to be careful, due to clotting disorders she's on heavy doses of coumadin but we could figure it out if she wants to hunt.  She shot like she has been practicing a year today, pulled a nice 5" group when we practiced today.  I've got serious competition on marksmanship, I'll tell you.

She's beginning to understand how I can clear my mind completely when shooting.  I might run a ream of math after that shot (and I do) but during that shot there is nothing but that target and my arrow.  It's showing in her demeanor, as well.  We appreciate the prayers, and know that things will unfortunately only get worse as we progress down this road.  It's good to know people are praying with us.

Half, as far as blessings are concerned, what % of the folks on here have a spouse shooting/hunting with them? A real blessing indeed!
