Fletching Question
«

I'm preparing to fletch up some Gold Tip 3555s with three five inch shield cut feathers. My Bitz fletching device is still set to fletch two inch Blazers for my wheelie bow. My question is what is a suggested distance between the back edge of the feather and where the knock and shaft meet? 1.0"? 1.5 inches? 1.75"?
Just looking for suggestions as it's been ages since I fletched feathers.
Thanks gang.

I usually put mine about 4 slots/marks (1/4") from the beginning of the marks on the clamp. I like more finger room between nock and feather. This equates to about 1.5" from nock valley.

I use shield feathers and glue them so the back end of the feather is 1 1/4 inches from the throat of the nock. It's a personal preference thing. Might go more or less than that depending on your finger size, glove vs. tab, etc.

Thanks guys...anyone else have any thoughts? I thought about the need for adequate room for gloved fingers.
I just didn't know if there was any benefit to a certain distance so as to aid in better arrow flight, etc.

Better flight comes by putting the feather as far back as possible but still have finger room.

I set mine at 4 marks up from bottom. I don't like the feather to touch my face

Mine are mounted 2" from the valley of the nock to the quill, because this is the distance required for my nose anchor. I haven't noticed any adverse effects from mounting them that far forward, but since I tune my arrows carefully to the bow before I mount any feathers, I wouldn't expect to see any.
